More unbearable infanticide

Its seems the brutality towards our young is on the rise. I'm thinking of the double murder of the Tamil children in London and the death by starvation of the 7 year old Indian girl in Birmingham.
How can this be happening? Are we simply seeing the media mining a theme here and grisly child murder stories that otherwise wouldnt make through the newsrooms are now flagged up for public consumption?

Well, yes. The media are currently mining a new theme and will tire of it in time, but that only means that we're currently granted a glimpse into the horror of everyday life which we'd normally be spared.
The fact is: people murder and rape and kill and abuse on levels which we couldn't normally imagine. When we do hear the statistics, we're forced, largely, to numb ourselves to them - to drive them off into a backwater of our brains and never really comprehend them.
Maybe I'm a pessimist. Alright, I *am* a pessimist. But it explains a hell of a lot. All I'm saying is that every historical event you have ever considered took place against a backdrop of this kind of horrific madness. THIS is the human condition. This is it. It has been happening forever, and there is next to nothing we can do it about it, unless we chain everybody in cages and monitor their every movement.
And yet - and YET - people sneer SO merrily when I talk about "evil". As if I believed in bogeymen.

We are the bogeymen. End of story.
